5 Skincare Resolutions To Keep This New Year
2020-01-07

With 2021 now here, it’s a good time to reflect over the past year or decade, even and start to set your goals for the coming year. You might want to achieve certain goals within your life such as staying in touch with family or friends more, or even visiting a certain place, but in addition to that I think it’s always good to set some skincare goals for yourself in 2021. Whether you want to drink more water, get better sleep, start using a toner, exfoliate and mask more regularly, these are a few attainable skincare goals you can set for yourself next year. If you stick to this plan, you're sure to look your most radiant throughout 2021.
1. Look after your body more
Most of you probably have quite a sophisticated facial routine, but have you thought about how much effort you put into the skin on the rest of your body recently?
In 2021, make it a priority to look after the skin on your body as much as you care for the skin on your face. You should be cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturising your body on a daily basis, the same way you do your face.
2. Check your products
In 2020, consider taking a hard look at all of the products that you've hoarded over the past year, and get rid of the things that aren't really working for you or may have expired their shelf lives.
An ELEMIS product has a shelf life of 3 years unopened, and once opened 6 months. It's possible that you may be using too many products, sending conflicting messages to your skin, or using products that have expired. If in doubt, it’s best to keep things simple, and follow our top tips for layering.
3. Exfoliate and mask regularly
Even though you may already be exfoliating and masking pretty regularly, make a commitment this year to exfoliate and put on a face mask at least once a week. Not only will you see such a difference in your skin and how your other products perform, but taking a 10-minute break to sit with your mask on is the perfect way to set aside some time to take care of yourself every week. This is a goal I’ll definitely be trying to stick to!
4. Pay attention to your neck and hands
We’re always worried about our faces showing our age, but did you know that the neck and hands often show signs of ageing before other parts of the body?
Make sure you're caring for both of those spots when you're also caring for your face. A great rule of thumb is to apply all the same skincare products on your neck and hands that you do on your face.
5. Maximise the quality of your sleep
Sleep. You should be getting as much of it as you can.
But in the event that you're not able to get a full night's rest, make sure you're effectively using the time you have in bed to help your skincare work better.
I'm a big believer in creating rituals before bed like a nice warm bath or shower with relaxing aromatics and spraying the bedroom with sleep-enhancing mists. It’s also really important to use skincare products inspired to work with your body’s inner clock and no electrical devices after a certain time before going to bed. All this I believe will certainly aid the quality of the sleep you get and help to support better sleep, encourage skin cell renewal, so you can wake up with a fresh face.
