The Power of Pro-Collagen

Our iconic Pro-Collagen range harnesses the power of the sea to visibly improve signs of ageing. Over time, our skin’s production of collagen – an essential protein that maintains skin’s strength and structure – declines, leading to signs of ageing appearing. Unfortunately, you can’t increase collagen by simply applying it to the skin’s surface. This is why our products don’t contain animal or marine collagen – instead, they combine potent marine algae with cutting-edge science to improve the visible signs of collagen decline in the skin. Our Pro-Collagen products are proven to boost hydration, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and increase elasticity and firmness for healthier-looking skin.

Did You Know?

70-80% of the skin’s dermal layer is made up of collagen. When collagen levels fall, skin begins to wrinkle and sag. 90% of premature ageing signs are caused by environmental factors that deplete collagen levels. 1% the percentage by which skin’s natural collagen production drops each year from our mid-20s.

What Happens to Collagen Over Time?

As we age – and due to lifestyle factors like stress and UV damage – our skin’s natural collagen production declines. The collagen our skin does still produce is weaker, stiffer and less structured than younger collagen – picture thin, loose twigs vs sturdy interlocking branches. This decline in collagen quantity and quality is a key factor in the skin developing wrinkles and losing firmness and elasticity – essentially, older collagen is less effective at maintaining the skin’s structural integrity than young collagen.

FAQs

Do ELEMIS Pro-Collagen products contain animal or marine derived collagen?

No – our Collagen Amino Acids and Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Collagen are created by binding together the protein fibres produced by corn, soy, and wheat to form a naturally derived vegetable collagen equivalent. These ingredients mimic the structure of collagen and can provide a functional equivalent that supports the youthful elasticity and suppleness of skin.

Do Pro-Collagen products directly affect the collagen in the skin?

No – our Pro-Collagen products target and improve the signs of collagen decline in the skin (such as wrinkles, fine lines, sagging and discolouration).

Are Pro-Collagen products suitable for sensitive skin?

Our Pro-Collagen range is designed to be suitable for sensitive skin; however, all complexions are different, so we always recommend patch-testing a new product before adding it to your routine.
