ELEMIS x The Great British Beauty Clean Up

2025-03-05

It’s no secret that recycling beauty products can be difficult. It’s an issue we’re working on at ELEMIS – and to be transparent, we have yet to achieve fully recyclable packaging that doesn’t compromise on protecting the quality of the product inside. That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Great British Beauty Clean Up – an annual initiative that helps customers recycle their beauty packaging – from any brand – at dedicated recycling points across the UK. Read on to find out more.

What is The Great British Beauty Clean Up?

The Great British Beauty Clean Up is an annual campaign calling on the beauty industry to reflect on the ways it can help reduce beauty waste. This could mean highlighting beauty recycling programmes to taking part in beauty empties recycling initiatives, explaining what to do with ‘hard to recycle’ products or even where to donate surplus stock to prevent landfill waste.

With the global beauty industry producing over 120 billion units of packaging each year, and with 56% of people not recycling their bathroom empties,* the reason for this campaign is clear: we need to be doing more when it comes to refilling, reusing and recycling cosmetics packaging in the UK. We’re taking part to change that.

Cleaning Up Our Act

Being a Certified B Corporation ® means we’re globally recognised as a company that balances profit alongside social and environmental considerations. B Corp status requires us to be transparent about how we do this – and holds us continuously accountable. One of our many sustainable aims is for all our packaging to become fully recyclable or reusable. While we’re working on that, we’re asking for your help to recycle your finished beauty products with us during the annual Great British Beauty Clean Up – and be rewarded for doing so.

How Do I Recycle Makeup and Skincare Packaging?

During March, we'll be offering recycling points at our flagship London locations – The House of ELEMIS spa in Mayfair, and our ELEMIS Monmouth Street store. Bring down your makeup and skincare empties – from any brand, not just ELEMIS – and the Great British Beauty Clean Up will take care of the rest, facilitating the proper recycling of packaging that you can't put in your recycling bin at home. Don't live in London? Beauty brands nationwide are taking part, so simply click here to find your nearest recycling point.

If you do, you’ll be eligible to take part in our stamp scheme.** For every empty return during the month of March, you receive 1 stamp. Return 3 beauty empties, and you’ll receive a 10g sample of our iconic Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm.*** Reach 10 stamps and receive £10 off when you spend £140 in-store.^ Plus, every time you return your empties, you’ll be entered into a competition to win a free ELEMIS treatment in-store.
