The Truth About Vitamin C

2022-09-29

The skincare secret you need to know Vitamin C is renowned for its skin-brightening properties – this powerful antioxidant boasts fading hyperpigmentation, improving skin texture and stimulating collagen production among its benefits. We’ve incorporated an ultra-stable form of this powerful ingredient into our NEW Dynamic Resurfacing Super-C Serum, which has been clinically proven to reduce visible signs of aging in as little as 5 days.*

What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and powerful antioxidant with the ability to penetrate deeply into the layers of the skin. It is naturally found in foods such as citrus fruits, berries, broccoli, kale and tomato. In skincare, it’s available in a variety of different strengths and textures to help you transform your skin and step up your routine.

What does Vitamin C do for the skin?

“Vitamin C targets dark spots and pigmentation on the skin’s surface, lightening their appearance, while simultaneously helping to minimize future outbreaks,” says ELEMIS Co-Founder and Global President Noella Gabriel. Add to that its ability to stimulate the production of collagen, protect skin from the impact of pollution and UV rays, and provide a brightening effect, and it’s not hard to see why we love this ingredient.

Vitamin C 101: Your Top Questions, Answered

Can I use Dynamic Resurfacing Super-C Serum while pregnant?

Our Dynamic Resurfacing Super-C Serum does not contain any ingredients that are deemed unsafe for use during pregnancy, but as every pregnancy is unique, we recommend checking with your medical practitioner before use.

Can I use Vitamin C if my skin is acne-prone?

Yes! Vitamin C is known to have anti-inflammatory properties, so it may help to reduce the redness and swelling that come with blemishes, as well as improving the appearance of blemish scarring and hyperpigmentation. Check out the blog post below for a targeted skincare routine for acne-prone skin.

What colour should my Vitamin C serum be?

Typically, Vitamin C is pale yellow in color; however, this can vary depending on the formulation. Our Dynamic Resurfacing Super-C Serum is pale yellow and housed in airtight, opaque packaging to ensure it remains efficacious and stable.

How long does a Vitamin C serum last?

This depends on the packaging – if the formula is exposed to air or light, it may break down sooner. That’s why we packaged Dynamic Resurfacing Super-C Serum in an airtight container to keep the actives fresh and stable for longer – we estimate it will remain efficacious for up to one year.

Are all Vitamin C products the same?

No! There are many different forms of Vitamin C. We have used Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, a very stable form of Vitamin C that converts to L-ascorbic acid when in the skin. It offers the same benefits as L-Ascorbic Acid with less susceptibility to oxidation. What makes our formula truly special is the combination of radiance-boosting actives – when combined with exfoliating Tri-Enzyme Technology, the Vitamin C-enriched formula becomes even more powerful at brightening and smoothing the skin.
